Founded by Harry Cousins, my Great Grandfather in the 1920’s originally in Sydenham, South London. Bliss was passed down to my Grandfather Gordon (& his brother Ted) and from him to my father Phil with father teaching son the skills of the trade.
Sadly, my father passed away while I was still a child so was not able to teach me the trade and the company passed into the ownership of another sweep.
Once I was old enough I went to college to study roofing and chimney construction and later joined another large sweeping company to learn the techniques of sweeping both traditional and modern chimneys, installing solid fuel fires and wood burners, replacing flues etc.
After qualifying and obtaining both practical experience and certification I took over the name and operation of Bliss to become the fourth generation of sweep in our family to run the business.
With the continuing upsurge of wood burners and solid fuel ranges it’s important both to ensure that chimneys are swept and that flue installations are correctly carried out.
A sooty chimney, or a poor installation, is not only inefficient but can result in potentially lethal levels of carbon monoxide entering the room.
The technology has changed since the 20’s but our commitment to good customer service remains as strong as ever.
I am always happy to discuss all things chimney’s so feel to call for some friendly advice.
